Follow the Data Podcast: How to Help Nonprofits Hit Hard By COVID-19

Across the country and around the world, philanthropy and the private sector are stepping up to help fill gaps and direct resources in response to the coronavirus.

As part of our ongoing series looking at how cities, nonprofits, and low- and middle-incomes countries are fighting the coronavirus, this episode dives deeper into the NYC COVID-19 Response & Impact Fund, an initiative which brings together individuals, businesses, and philanthropic organizations, including Bloomberg Philanthropies, to support New York City-based social services and cultural organizations that have been affected by the coronavirus crisis.

This fund builds on Mike Bloomberg’s prior experience in local disaster recovery, including 9/11 and Hurricane Sandy, and acknowledges the need to help vital local organizations.

To tell us more about the Fund, Megan Sheekey – who leads our Strategic Partnership work at Bloomberg Associates – spoke to Darren Walker, president of the Ford Foundation, an international social justice philanthropy and one of Bloomberg Philanthropies’ co-funders in the fund to support New York City nonprofits.

They discuss how the coronavirus pandemic is affecting social service and cultural organizations across the city, where the greatest needs are, the role of foundations in supporting these groups, and how listeners can get involved.
